Spatial and single-cell transcriptomics capture two distinct cell states in plant immunity
Unlike animals, plants are sessile organisms that must adapt to localized and fluctuating environmental stimuli, including abiotic and biotic stresses. While animals use mobile immune cells to elimina...

Here starts my scientific independence as ARC DECRA investigator in Melbourne.

I decided to use the Arabidopsis - #Fusarium Pathosystem to study #PlantImmunity with spatial resolution ( #SpatialImmunity ) using #PlantMicroscopy.

So, I wrote about my idea first. My next @jxbotany.bsky.social paper:
The Arabidopsis thaliana–Fusarium oxysporum strain 5176 pathosystem: an overview
This review provides an overview of the advances made with the Arabidopsis thaliana–Fusarium oxysporum5176 pathosystem in understanding the cause and defen

Winding down my #Fusarium #SpatialImmunity Project, which I started 5 years ago in 🇦🇺. 😥

In 🇦🇺 I created >850 plant lines for the project (which FedEx lost, recovered, 2xflew back-n-forth 🇦🇺/🇩🇪), in my 2 years @mpipz.bsky.social I added another 500 lines.
Mostly fluorescent markers for #PlantImmunity.

Transcellular regulation of ETI-induced cell death
To address the persistent challenge of cell death spread and limitation during effector-triggered immunity (ETI), we propose a ‘concentric circle’ model. This model outlines a regulatory framework, in...

"The enduring power of microscopy in the age of spatial analyses!"

This really is the perfect blurb I would choose to put on the cover of the print version of our paper, if I could. 👌

The enduring power of microscopy in the age of spatial analyses!

Using novel fluorescence-based reporters, this study shows that SA, ROS, DAMPs & ET induce the HR zone as a 1st line of defence against Fusarium, while WRKY11, JA & ET govern active defences in a separate zone. @jxbotany.bsky.social
Resolving spatially distinct phytohormone response zones in Arabidopsis thaliana roots colonized by Fusarium oxysporum
Abstract. Jasmonic acid (JA), ethylene (ET) and salicylic acid (SA) are the three major phytohormones coordinating plant defense responses, and all three a

Jie Zhu & Gitta Coaker (+ Alba Moreno-Pérez) also wrote this review on spatial omics techniques, doi.org/10.1038/s420..., where I was happy to find one of our own #SpatialImmunity imaging-based papers cited as well:
doi.org/10.1101/2022...
Both are worth a look. 🙂
