#Spectrometers
I turn 27 today. I should be careful with... anti-mass spectrometers.

Thank you for following me and supporting my art ❤️

quick everyone place those orders for spectrometers

Went to see “Age of Ultron” the day it came out with a huge cohort of my grad school (chemistry) peers. Banner and Stark at one point came to the conclusion scientists should “put their spectrometers on their roofs and tune them to gamma radiation” and our corner of the theater burst into laughter

No trip to Bremen would be complete without seeing the birth place of some of my favourite mass spectrometers 🧪

Tired of AI-generated figures? I asked our talented scientific illustrator Manon Zuurmond to draw some of the instruments and lab equipment we missed in NIH's otherwise fantastic BioArt resource. First batch now available as CC BY. Free for everyone to use in publications: github.com/Center-for-P...

What is Kamala Harris’ plan to get people to stop describing nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers as "machines" and not instruments?
What is Kamala Harris’ plan to get people to stop saying the only good Star Trek movie is “Wrath of Khan”

4️⃣ Unplanned scientific opportunity ahead ☄️

Beginning of November, Juice will attempt to observe comet #3I/Atlas over a period of four weeks. The team plans on using several instruments, including cameras, spectrometers and a particle sensor. 6/8

Setup 5 prism spectrometers with ratings plus one constant deviation spectrometer all for 6th form. All but one of these instruments over 100 years old.🧪

Our Ariel mission will study the atmospheres of exoplanets.

Thanks to a suite of spectrometers and photometers, the mission will find out what the atmospheres of exoplanets are made of and what they are like.

Discover how Ariel will investigate exoplanets here 👉 www.esa.int/Science_Expl...

At this rate, in a few years we’ll be able to put on helmets and fly through mass spectrometers ourselves:

While setting up NMR spectrometers in New Zealand, we had a choice. Either set the machines upside down or get upside down spectra. We chose the latter, coz the other choice would've spilled out the liquid nitrogen.

Our work in Science Advances on #BIC #metasurface spectrometers overcomes resolution-sensitivity trade-off. We achieve high light throughput, ideal for ultra-low-light applications like fluorescence & astrophotonic spectroscopy. doi.org/10.1126/scia...

Having a one-person festivus party at 7:30 am with my magnets 🎄

(The magnets are perfect and no grievances to air. The spectrometers on the other hand…) #chemsky 🧪 #nmrchat

Great overview over the different approaches for Hyperspectral imaging. Even learned a thing or two about experimental snapshot imaging spectrometers using computed tomography or coded apertures.
I took a look at how new 'Hyperspectral' imaging works, how can you build a camera which captures many times more color channels that the RGB images produced by regular cameras.

The city has also purchased new mass spectrometers, the state of the art in drug analysis, and been the first in the nation to identify adulterants like the tranquilizer Medetomidine.

in 2012 I went to see Avengers with two chemists

the line of dialogue about "moving the mass spectrometers up to the roof" was probably not intended to get a big laugh, but it did
Can you think of a movie/ tv trope that is a wildly inaccurate representation of what they’re trying to depict?

For me, it’s science stuff . They’ll show a scientist and say something like “ he has a ph. D in molecular biology “ and then have him solving physics or organic chemistry problems

I did a quick search and pulled up the Wikipedia page on spectrometers, and there is a section on magnetic spectrometers (not electromagnetic) that seemed somewhat relevant.

I currently use mass spectrometers in my work- incredible, expensive machines. Just because they’re important to science doesn’t mean they should support the entire economy and everyone should have one in their house.

My "mysterious blob" research appeared on CBC's The National last night. Even more fun was being interviewed for "Chromatography Online", which was like "Desert Island Discs" but talking about my favorite mass spectrometers.
