Most eulogies start with a quote. The best ones start with a real memory. That's what we build.

"holding the party's steel compass tight (to your heart)", as in following party line closely because you know in your heart it's the most robust provider of political direction imaginable, is a figure i literally just brainfarted in a frenzy but will totally adopt into my speechwriting vocabulary

I just want to say that what impresses me most about you is that judging by how expeditiously you rolled out your plans after the election, it’s clear you carefully thought everything out to the last detail long before you won. You let your team deal with speechwriting so you could plan. Well done!

The best speech isn't polished. It's the one that sounds like you, even if you're roasting your best friend at the altar. BuzzVow writes it.

The best speeches aren't written. They're remembered. Tell us what actually happened, and we'll build your words around that.

Public disclosures of politicians using AI for their leadership communication are becoming more frequent. They all have staff whose duties include speechwriting, but clearly many are taking the easy way out and embarrassing their bosses who are ultimately responsible.

Stephen Miller headed Trump's speechwriting team and oversaw the Jan 6 speech. On Jan 6 AM he was in the Oval Office when Trump argued with Pence on the phone; his assistant then ordered: "re-insert the Pence lines".

Miller then went to the Ellipse with Trump but left midway through the speech.. 1/
As the white supremacist Stephen Miller returns to the White House to direct policy, remember that Miller wrote much of Trump's Jan 6 speech calling the mob to march to the Capitol. Miller sat in the Oval Office as Trump raged at Mike Pence, then directed the mob at Pence. 1/

2/ Among British parties, the Liberal Democrats seem to give the most AI speeches. Labour's number is flattered a bit to the downside, since ministers rarely do. Among backbenchers, it is in second place.

The 2024 intake are particularly enthusiastic AI-speechwriting-adopters.

1/ This is bottom-up, not top-down, and reflects choices MPs (and their staff) are making. I spoke to several.

Reactions ran the gamut from denial to defence: "for every half hour saved on speechwriting, 'that is another 30 minutes we can put into supporting my constituents.'"

It's hard to imagine how or why anyone on his speechwriting team thought diplomats from other countries would applaud these lies.

Always read @jfallows.bsky.social on speechwriting and analysis. If you want perhaps the best example of a short, exemplary quality speech—Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.
Trump's speech was very bad, but at least it was super long!

Prez of UNGA "invited" speeches of 15 mins or less.
Our man went 36+ .

Rule of thumb in speech world: What you lack in quality, you never make up in quantity.

Or: Shorter is always better, especially when the content is bad.

The best speech isn't the proper one. It's the one that sounds like you, says what you actually mean, and makes the room feel something real.

President Krasnov let’s slip he knows more about watching escalators than anything to do with coherent speechwriting.
“When a reporter asked about his planned message for a coming speech at the UN, Trump blathered on about how his Teleprompter at the UN didn’t work the last time he was there and the escalator stopped. ‘I’ve built a lot of escalator,’” he boasted.

How was that not a one off quote in an interview? Why is it in his stump speeches? Does Rubio have plants in his speechwriting staff?

Sometimes I amuse myself by ‘speechwriting’ for political candidates who have absolutely no reason to listen to me. But I’m certain I could get them a modest poll boost.

We’re all doing this, right? This is just normal 2026 insanity, right?

I do wonder how many of these people and their staffs have completely outsourced speechwriting to LLMs?
whoever thought it was a good idea to let Don Jr speak for 20 minutes made a catastrophic choice. this is one of the most boring speeches I've ever endured. Dude completely lost whatever fastball he had sometime over the past couple years
