#SpinCoater
It turns out to be quite feasible to make your own semiconductors (just ask @jeriellsworth.bsky.social), but it does involve a lot of really unpleasant chemicals

That said, I’ve been following what @johndmcmaster.bsky.social and company are doing recently and even got a spincoater, so here we go

Design, fabrication & optical characterization of a low-cost #OpenSource #SpinCoater:

- #microfluidics & #lab-on-a-chip device fabrication
- based on an old hard drive
- #Arduino-controlled

The only odd thing is the lack of any safeguard to prevent vibration-caused loosening of the nut at the flushing gas inlet fitting. And that was exactly the problem that led me to open the device.

Have you ever wondered, what is inside a spincoater? Here's a peek at the guts of a Laurell WS-650. As someone, who's not afraid to get hands-on with equipment, I had to open it up to solve a small problem. In overall, the design and assembly are quite good.
