Sometimes, he felt like Maddie could read him like a book. He would have dismissed this as ridiculous, seeing that they had met only so shortly ago, but she had been inside his mind.
She had been a vital part of the ritual that had freed him. He would be forever grateful to her, not only for making him do it in the first place, but because she had protected the human girl’s soul sliver during the extraction. He knew from her that the girl had woken some days after the ritual, and that was an immense relief.
His conscience for having misused and mistreated the girl was bad enough as it was.
Knight nodded. Maddie raised an eyebrow as if to say — what are you waiting for? A fanfare? — and he had to grin.
Time to show them the game. Time to prove to both of them that he, while not as strong as his brother, could hold his own.
Louan began to dance.

Very cautiously. Haunted house equals ghosts. Those are exactly opposite of incubi in the circle of chapters. Lady Sorrow would have their heads.
