#SponCon
Sponcon?
October 2, 2026 at 7:05 PM
Over on my secret vanilla account, I just did my first piece of SponCon.

I'm going to go write something that no one would pay money for so I feel less dirty.

genuinely perplexing, one would think "don't use the logo, don't make it look like sponcon" would be the reasonable approach

McGurk should be peddling his resume to community colleges and third tier think tanks, not releasing memoirs that get the sponcon treatment from the fucking Times
The day that Biden grew so angry at Netanyahu that he nearly cut him off: "He was just completely fed up with everything and I think at that moment he was ready to just say, 'I’m done,'" Brett McGurk recalls as he releases "Brink," his memoir of Gaza war. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/u...
‘Ready to Blow His Stack’: How Biden Nearly Cut Off Netanyahu Over Gaza
Brett McGurk, who was the top Middle East adviser to President Joseph R. Biden Jr., offered the first inside-the-room account of American efforts to manage the Gaza war.

Sponcon, isn't that a halt just outside of Derby?

Things I appreciate about the Fediverse #14: no one is posting sponcon trying to sell me vitamin supplements.

What the bullshit sponcon is this? Of course they carry wallets
September 30, 2026 at 11:21 PM
… did joey votto just sneak some sponcon in there for meta's stupid AI gremlin
September 29, 2026 at 8:28 PM
I landed on the orange cokcwaffle and the FIFA peace prize, Guiliani saying Mamdani should go to 9/11, and Steyer and Becerra hiring TT influencers to do promo for their campaigns that wasn't marked as sponcon. Thanks all!

It was a marketing campaign and nothing more. The NYT knows this, their whole deal these days is doing sponcon masquerading as reporting. Thinly veiled pieces pushing GLP-1s, AI, and garbage like tradwife and natalist stuff. It's all to sell stuff.
For a “movement” to end… it would have to first begin

king of sponcon!

Sometimes you have to throw yourself bodily on the gears of capitalism and sometimes it's enough to stand athwart sponcon, yelling Stop
September 27, 2026 at 3:28 PM
This feels like an op, some sort of guerilla “surprise! the artist and song are both ai! this has all been sponcon!” shit.
September 27, 2026 at 3:23 PM
Like I don’t really believe in industry plant type conspiracies but this is making me feel like it does exist

Or its some kind of weird Republican/MAGA Christian sponcon

It sure feels like it!

I say this as a fiction writer who has no issue at all with authors referencing existing brands for worldbuilding/verisimilitude purposes: this reads like sponcon. I'd be absolutely stunned if it wasn't
September 27, 2026 at 10:01 AM
Is this piece sponcon??
September 27, 2026 at 2:11 AM
Do you think we will get more John Mateer sponcon on Instagram this week
September 26, 2026 at 9:26 PM
(Limiting this to people I follow because I don't want actual ads, please. Sponcon can go to TikTok and Insta where it belongs. I want actual people to tell me something interesting and good they've found on the world wide web.)

Idk how I missed this Toyota sponcon
🇾🇪 Yemen’s Houthis have declared their readiness to launch an offensive on the city of Marib, one of the last major strongholds of Yemen’s Saudi-backed government.

🔹 Toyota pickup trucks armed with artillery and machine guns remain a key component of the Houthi ground forces.

“united states army sponcon twitch stream” feels like one of those things that would be a deadblossomjesse bit and not an actual controversy that happened on that website in the last week
September 26, 2026 at 4:53 PM
Exactly. This is all just sponcon and testimonials pretending to be a story. Every single overleveraged company has done this shit. Ad firms don't just sell your product, they also hire people with connects to the paper to get "stories" placed
once again the actual "story" behind Tilly Norwood is how the company's PR firm continues to get these stories placed in ostensibly legit outlets over and over despite zero demonstration of the supposed phenomenon being written about ("AI movie star Tilly Norwood") being real
A better way to phrase this Variety headline would be "Publicity Seeker Who Invented A Program Continues Long Con"
September 26, 2026 at 4:26 PM
Lol this is undeclared sponcon

Shameful.
