As soon as Ukraine started talking about kicking Russia's ass with AI all these tech bro shitheads started yapping about how "we need regulation" after Elon Musk personally called each one them.

Note to the media: Those of us who have problems w Flock cameras are not "anti-tech". I use tech every day. It's a tool. What I resent is a police state using tech to spy on citizens with a presumption of guilt. I'm not anti-tech, I'm anti-authoritarianism. It's why we have a Constitution FFS.

Because current tech is poor quality and built to spy on you and price gouge you.

I crave tech that actually works, doesn't spy on me/my dwelling, and lacks a chip that'll cut its lifespan short

Over and over the cycle repeats:

Bad tech do bad thing

Politicians: make bad tech not to bad thing?

Companies: no bad thing make money

Politicians: ah okay keep doing bad thing just add more spy

Palantir, a US spy-tech firm, has been given access to millions of NHS patient records.

Its founder has said the NHS should be 'ripped up'.

Join me in calling on the government to end the dangerous Palantir contract.

Stop Palantir taking over our public services!
Our public services aren’t for a secretive profit-hungry US tech firm. Sign the petition to tell the Government to scrap all contracts with secretive US tech firm Palantir.

From mandatory ID cards to arresting pensioners for holding up cardboard signs to cosy deals with US tech spy firms:

It's good to see lawyers pushing back on their increasingly authoritarian Govenrment.

We must protect jury trials.

It may not be a household name, but Palantir is now one of the world's most valuable companies. Its "spy tech" is set to gain more government and military work in the Trump administration.

Also: retro setting solves many “modern tech” problems that make spy films unfun/implausible
Since apparently there is James Bond discourse, here’s the simplest way to get out this self-imposed “how do we unkill Bond” mess.

YOU DON’T *NEED* CONTINUITY, FFS

Keep the same actors for M, Moneypenny, Q, Leiter, and Lashana Lynch as 008 or whatever number.
New Bond.
Set it in the 60s.

EASY.

This is crazy. Peter Thiel’s spy tech Palantir is embedding itself in the British state, and makes hundreds of millions from Government contracts in health, policing and defence, but pays barely any taxes
An investigation by OpenDemocracy found that Palantir has paid very little UK tax, despite receiving over £670m in UK public contracts.

How? By booking profits overseas, and using tax loopholes for paying staff with stocks to reduce their corporation tax bill.
