no I'm so sorry I have to come back to this. it's kinda insane??? like does this mean sreng forcefully split off from a once unified sreng-faerghus or was it something more like sreng and faerghus used to be the same collection of tribes before faerghus decided to get religious
huh just found out that an (accidentally?) cut balthus line actually gives you info on the status of not only duscur and sreng in azure moon, but the possibility of kupala being granted independence if you byleth marry balthus too

still reeling from claude encouraging conflict between faerghus and sreng even tho that seems completely antithetical to his whole long term dream. they wanted him as edelgard lite so bad

Dimitri and Sylvain learning the languages of Duscur and Sreng in secret is so compelling. The fact that it had to be done covertly just exemplifies how hostile Fodlan is to foreign influence.

also sylvain cares SO FUCKING MUCH about faerghus and ESPECIALLY about sreng. he becomes margrave in every single one of his endings — even if he leaves the blions he’s never just fucking off and leaving his home to fend for itself

sorry gonna say it again, but if you equate duscur and sreng it's gross. sreng is a white military power in a shitty resource struggle with faerghus another white military power—the conflict is between two equal powers. duscur is an innocent, racialised people subjected to a genocide

just culturally, faerghus-sreng are so much more alike! I've always leaned toward faerghus-sreng being from the same collection of tribes too so getting lore leaning that way is so fun
I wonder if the old eastern faerghus pre-church stuff is fully current culture in sreng

I definitelyyyy have my own gripes with it (especially in regards to Sreng) but its a net win imo (and full disclosure I pretend the sreng stuff didn't happen in my mental fanfic version of the route)

i also feel like the game itself presents different lands (sreng, almyra, & brigid) as not particularly having their shit perfectly together either & they're missing the "crest system" of fódlan.
