#PictishSymbolStone with cross on 1 side & a depiction of the Battle of Dun Nechtain, in May 685 CE, when Bridei’s Picts defeated the Northumbrians, incl. killing King Ecgfrith.

Also an intriguing new stone, excavated recently, with multiple #Pictish symbols.

Lanyon Quoit, near Morvah, in West Penwith, Cornwall, is a 'dolmen', a type of single-chamber megalithic tomb dating from the early Neolithic period (4000 to 3000 BC). It would have originally been covered with earth or smaller stones to form a barrow. #StandingStoneSaturday

A really nice example of a Class II Pictish stone, found near the Kirk and moved not it later.

An unusual ‘step’ symbol, suggested to represent a sacred vallum or sanctuary. Also an interesting ornamented disc, possibly a cauldron.

For #StandingStoneSaturday I offer the Achkinloch/Achavanich Stone Setting in Caithness. This horseshoe shaped monument is unusual in that the stones stand perpendicular to the ring, with their narrow ends pointing toward the centre. 📷 My own

#StandingStoneSaturday I went off all social media for a while for all kinds of healthy reasons, so I hadn’t shared equinox pictures of my dawn moment at the #BronzeAge burial circle behind my house. Numb fingered, I drummed slowly to the dawn, a rhythm I’d only minutes before dreamt #archaeotherapy

The Sandwick stone in Tain is one of my favourite Pictish Stones. Not to misquote Nietzsche or anything—but this stone is the void staring back whilst singing at you and hoping you know the words even if you can’t carry the tune. #StandingStoneSaturday
