A carved stone slab from Aberlemno, Scotland. The fighting depicted on this slab from Aberlemno probably represents the Battle of Nechtansmere in AD 685 - in which the Picts defeated the Anglo-Saxons and expelled them from their land.

The Serpent Stone - a Class I Pictish Symbol stone which is located at Aberlemno in Angus. The stone dates to around the 7th century AD, and is probably a re-used prehistoric standing stone. 📸 My own. #StandingStoneSunday #Picts #Aberlermno

Aberlemno 3, a C9th #Pictish cross-slab of huge historical and artistic importance, has been blown over. The images give an indication of the damage, currently being assessed by HES.

#StandingStoneSunday the Serpent stone or Aberlemno 1. A class 1 #Pictish stone in Aberlemno Angus. It depicts a serpent, a double disk, Z rod, mirror and comb, #Neolithic cup marks are on the reverse, its thought to date to 7th or 8th century.

#PictishSymbolStone with cross on 1 side & a depiction of the Battle of Dun Nechtain, in May 685 CE, when Bridei’s Picts defeated the Northumbrians, incl. killing King Ecgfrith.

Also an intriguing new stone, excavated recently, with multiple #Pictish symbols.

A Pictish carved stone was discovered by archaeologists from the University of Aberdeen in a field at Aberlemno, Angus, #OTD in 2021. It is believed to date from the 5/6thC, and joins six other stones found in the area.
