November named most underrated month for a UK break – five destinations to visit
November has been named the UK's most underrated month for a getaway, whether you are looking for a romantic break, time alone or the chance to recharge with friends.
The month opens the UK up to peaceful countryside walks, cosy cottage stays and early festive events, yet new research shows just five per cent of holidays are taken then.

Staycations at this time of year can be underrated. Indeed, we visited Cornwall in autumn to discover why it could be summer as the best time to visit.
The Peak District, the Cotswolds, the New Forest, Somerset and the Lake District have been highlighted as some of the best destinations for a November escape, according to holiday letting agency holidaycottages.co.uk, who shared the research.
More than half of November bookings (53.7 per cent) are made for one or two guests, suggesting the month is particularly popular with couples and solo travellers.

The data also showed enjoying autumn scenery is only part of the appeal of an off-season escape. Holidaymakers can benefit from fewer tourists and the opportunity to spend quality time away from everyday distractions.
PR manager for holidaycottages.co.uk, Sarah Pring, said: “November is one of the UK’s most underrated times of year to take a break. The crowds have disappeared, the festive rush is yet to begin, and the landscape takes on a quieter, more atmospheric character. It’s the perfect moment to pause, spend time in nature and return home feeling refreshed before Christmas arrives.
"What’s more, there are some fantastic events that take place across the country from one of Europe’s largest carnivals through to illuminations, and even festive fairs – providing lots of reasons to get out and about.
“And for holiday homeowners looking to fill availability gaps, properties with hot tubs receive 60 per cent more bookings per person than those without, while those with open fires or wood burners receive 27 per cent more, showing what guests are looking for with their November stays. These features are worth having on your radar is you’re looking to boost off peak bookings.”
The staycation experts shared five places definitely worth visiting if you do travel this month.

## The Peak District
The Peak District offers dramatic landscapes, peaceful villages, and miles of walking routes for those looking to slow down before the festive season.
Visitors can explore the limestone valleys around Castleton and Bakewell or venture into the rugged Dark Peak, with a warm cottage offering somewhere to relax after a day outdoors.
Those ready to get into the Christmas spirit early can also visit the Bakewell Christmas Market on November 14 and 15, where more than 100 festive stalls are expected to showcase local crafts, handmade gifts, and seasonal food.
## The Cotswolds
With its honey-coloured villages, rolling countryside and independent shops, the Cotswolds is well suited to a slower November break.
Spend the day exploring rural footpaths, browsing bookshops and galleries or getting ahead with Christmas shopping in the region's independent stores. The Spectacle of Light at Sudeley Castle also returns from November 20, with an illuminated trail through the castle grounds featuring an Alice in Wonderland theme.

The New Forest offers ancient woodland, open heathland and quiet trails, which is great for those ready to truly switch off.
Expect woodland walks, country pub lunches and evenings spent relaxing in a cottage. Dog owners can also explore routes such as the 3km circular walk around Hatchet Pond, the New Forest's largest body of fresh water.

## Somerset
Somerset has a mix of rolling countryside, historic towns and independent food and drink experiences. Britons can explore the historic streets of Bath, Wells and Frome, browse farm shops or settle into a traditional country pub after a countryside walk.
The county's famous Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival takes place on November 7, featuring an illuminated procession that offers an alternative to a conventional countryside break.
## The Lake District
The Lake District's tranquil lakes, rugged fells and picturesque villages provide a striking backdrop for a late autumn getaway.
With fewer guests than during peak season, November is ideal for relaxing lakeside walks or exploring woodland paths. GB News has also visited during the quieter months to see what it has to offer. Read our Lake District guide here.
The Kendal Mountain Festival takes place from November 19 to 22, bringing together films, talks and workshops celebrating the outdoors and adventure.
