Oxford geologist named Megalosaurus in 1824, based on fossils found in nearby Stonesfield. Richard Owen only coined the term 'dinosaur' years later, in 1841. The original Megalosaurus fossils are currently on display in the OUMNH. www.oumnh.ox.ac.uk/learn-oxford...

Our poster girl, Shiruru, is striking a pose for the camera, but she has no idea that the “MobileMRI” app is actually letting people peek at her internal organs—specifically, her female reproductive organs.

Megalosaurus is Sex Pistols. Foundational, rudimentary, messy, scariest thing imaginable to an earlier generation. I'm far from done but have to go to class! Stay tuned...

Pub 3361, White Horse, Stonesfield. Loved the angular low bare boarded beginnings, village was cute, locals said arrr, but the Harry Potter beer range declined quickly and it was more huff than puff late on.

Stonesfield slate is everywhere across Oxfordshire. Several Oxford University colleges are roofed with it and so too are many Cotswold farmhouses. Stonesfielders were chiefly employed in slate quarries.

Buckland made the announcement during a paper read to the Geological Society of London. The fossils he described had been collected over years from quarries in Oxfordshire, especially near Stonesfield. These remains included part of a jaw, teeth, vertebrae, ribs, and limb bones.

When the master looked into Shiruru's lower body with the transparent app "MobileMRI," he saw that her internal organs were clogged with poop 💩, and the moment he realized that she was constipated, he got an erection.

* “average resurfacing cycle for all types of roads in England is every 103 years” factoid actualy just statistical error. average resurfacing cycle is every 12 years. Stonesfield megalosaurus pothole, which was caused by a 700kg dinosaur 166mn yrs ago, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

Just published today - a quick nomenclatural note on an obscure non-pterodactyloid pterosaur from the Stonesfield Slate! Thomas Huxley named it in 1859, not Hermann von Meyer
Rhamphorhynchus bucklandi Huxley, 1859 is the valid name and authority for a Jurassic pterosaur (Pterosauria, RHAMPHORHYNCHIDAE) from England, not Pterodactylus bucklandi Meyer, 1832 |...

Have my brother the Oxfordshire Ghosts book for Christmas one year. Sadly, it took him twice as long to get to his girlfriend’s house thereafter as he wouldn’t drive down a “haunted” road between Combe and Stonesfield.

This megalosaurus-like bone was dug up at Cornwell, about 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Chipping Norton in north Oxfordshire, from the Great Oolite limestone( Middle Jurassic), of similar age to the Stonesfield Slate Quarry where the specimens that William Buckland famously described in 1824 were found.

#FossilFriday: Amongst the 'Ichthyodontes Cuspidati' illustrated by Edward Lhuyd in his 1699 book on British fossils, Lithophylacii Britannici Ichnographia, no. 1328 stands out. It's a tooth of Megalosaurus from the type locality of Stonesfield in Oxfordshire.
