--to get legit photos they didn't like taken down or submit photos they didn't own like other people's selfies to manufacture violations. Which does happen with both TakeItDown and StopNCII; we just decided as an industry to clean up after it when it happens rather than add barriers

We support StopNCII... consent protection is essential. But our concern is accuracy. Non-sexual naturist images and artist photography are constantly being labeled as Adult sexually explicit when no sexual intent is present despite full context, tagging, and non-sexual framing. Naturism isn’t 1/3

this is also why hash feedback is sooooooooo so important - most online platforms people use ingest this same hash database and do manual review, if it's something that shouldn't be in there that feedback has to go back to stopncii (I believe there is a mechanism to do this in the integration)

that's fair, but imo it seems like a very significant limitation that I think should probably be made clearer to end-users by StopNCII

Literally anyone could submit this non-intimate, publicly available photo to StopNCII, all you would get is a hash, and you’d block anyone from posting it.

There's a step after that which is: If the content is found to be benign, then a report is filed with StopNCII to give feedback & ultimately remove the hash from the database.

StopNCII does have a feedback API for platform partners to use. In StopNCII's case, the hashes added are computed on the client, they don't receive the media files that reporter submits, they also don't track who the reporter is (providing email is optional & not stored, other PII isn't collected)

We did tests with TMK for StopNCII, and the cost of running the algorithm on people's phones was prohibitive. TMK adoption in the wild is overall less than PDQ.
