Storm preparedness should include protective eyewear
Fierce winds, flying debris, broken glass and tree branches are some of the many things that can create serious eye hazards during storms.

DTE Energy prepares workers ahead of Wednesday night storm that could bring 60 mph wind #DTEEnergy #StormPreparedness #WindStorm
DTE Energy prepares workers ahead of Wednesday night storm that could bring 60 mph wind
DTE Energy is preparing for storms that could bring winds of up to 60 miles per hour to Metro Detroit on Wednesday night by readying a couple thousand of its line workers and recruiting workers from other states to address possible outages. Brian Calka, vice president of distribution operations for DTE Energy, said a number of weather fronts will move across the state Wednesday evening and overnight that will "generate a lot of wind." "And the potential is there for a pretty serious wind event and a lot of customer outages," he said. Calka expected tens of thousands of customers to experience outages. He said DTE Energy has a couple thousand of line workers that are "ready to go," and another 650 line workers are coming from out of state to help out. He said the company recognizes the hardships that outages create for its customers. "It's really important for people to understand that we are committed to working as long as it takes to safely and … quickly get the power back on for our customers," he said. The wind will come after rain fell throughout the day Wednesday. The National Weather Service's Detroit office posted on X Wednesday morning that 1.5 to 2 inches of rainfall was expected to fall as several rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms moved through the area. A flood watch is in effect for parts of southeast Michigan Wednesday evening through the night. asnabes@detroitnews.com This article originally appeared on The Detroit News: DTE Energy prepares workers ahead of Wednesday night storm that could bring 60 mph wind
