The fact that people choose a logic of personal moral failing over systemic and structural barriers is telling. It’s not only because the latter is overwhelming; it’s because people of means would have to confront the reality that their success are far from solely based on their personal ingenuity.
Many, many, MANY studies show that the cumulative costs of harassing homeless people—cops, prison, jail, etc—are much more expensive than just housing them and providing income, and that doing those things helps people get to the point where they’re not in crisis any longer.

I’m not even saying this with pure scorn (though I’ve grown to have some for some of the zealots). I’m saying it as a structural critique, and I’d argue, a fatal flaw in the logic. And over time, the reliance on the power derived from anti-social tactics will doom the project, and the zealots.
