Jakobson's genius was in his knack for building scholarly communities wherever he landed. My article covers how he turned phonology into a universal key for culture and why he studied aphasia.

There’s a difference between Butler’s Lockeian politics, which depicts the dissolve of safety nets as *bringing out* and permitting the savagery in people, and Harrison’s more ambivalent (post-structuralism?) which depicts social dissolve as pressuring violent reaction out of ppl trying to live

Tl;dr the idea that "antisemitism isn't systemic" is what Gramsci criticised as "economism" or _mecanicismo_, the inverted form of the opposing error of "ideologism". "Systemic" here standing for a one-sided economic structuralism that holds all ideology as "epiphenomenal" and thus irrelevant

All of maths sounds like galaxy brained nonsense throughout history, but mathematicians don’t tend to adopt a language or a way of speaking just for fashionable reasons or to look good, it is because category theory is the best expression of how to formalize aspects of mathematical structuralism

This is not present in older film on the White Terror, such as City of Sadness, Super Citizen Ko, or others, probably because they were temporarily more proximate to the White Terror. Anyway, I tend to think the focus of much literary criticism on post-structuralism

This show is so good, it starts with its own, drum roll. We have a few punk bands, not always playing punk songs. We travel to the ends of the earth, well New Zealand, France, and Eigg in the Scottish...

like i don't imagine austin is *actually* as flippant towards to art as a delivery device for immersive courses in theory and lived experience and structuralism and dialectics and all that stuff

some people just ALSO get fascinated by the mechanics of how they drew a realistic sidewalk or something

of post structuralism and it fluidity when it comes to how things are defined and what we consider part of the in-group and the out-group.

Why do profs assign frankfurt school theorists to students who have never learned marx?? Why assign deleuze to students who have never learned lacan or spinoza or any structuralism?? And why do i then have to read papers by these students when they take my class???

It's a very timely article, though, because she's absolutely right - and I've been grappling with why academics are at once particularly susceptible to it (a commitment to materialism and structuralism, I think) and yet also privilege the individual as truth-seeker via standpoint epistemology.

Today’s teaching is folk and fairy stories, with a side order of Propp and structuralism. It should be @kerryhp.bsky.social’s session but she was made redundant by idiots.

fairly equal likelihoods of getting policy history or document theory or critical data studies or theories of computer vision or histories of statisticsor critical histories of business or french structuralism or genre theory or philosophy of music.

and thats before you even get into the gay shit

I completely agree with you. This again brings me back to our discussions of post-structuralism in which something is defined by what it is not (e.g this chair is a chair because it is not a table). I’ve mentioned a similar quote from Chatterjee on Bluesky before, but I feel it really ties in here

"Semiotically unstable" is a deep cut! You're really hitting the nail on the head there! Makes me think of conversations from the early and mid aughts around post-structuralism / post-modernism / "truthiness" and the 2010s rise of neo-populisms 🙏

I'm trying to understand Butler better but I think I have major theoretical differences with them: with post-structuralism generally and more specifically with the centrality of performance to gender rather than performance as one pole of an interaction with innate inclination. How does Wittig fall?

Evaluating this "undefined progressing manner" requires shifting away from the classical frameworks of positivist science toward post-structuralism, information theory, and process philosophy.

The fact that so many pseuds still name Baudrillard as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" philosopher ever only tells you how far post-structuralism still is from becoming a serious critique of capital.
September 22, 2026 at 7:59 PM
I think our intro speaks to that, at least a little. Structuralism as the favorite philosophy of a society entirely trapped in codes and automatic systems.
