Visiting family (and my old bookshelves) and looking for a physical book to (re)read. Narrowed down to three finalists.

also add ZATO onto it while you're at it. I love my Strugatsky Brother inspired stories. I genuinely do think Roadside Picnic is probably the most influential sci-fi work of the past 50 years so it's nice to see effects outside of "what if we did THE ZONE again?"

Finished up Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky brothers.

Aside from seeing where iconic stuff from the STALKER series gets their inspiration, it was nice to read some sci-fi stories from the perspective of dude who doesn't pontificate about the greater implications of first contact and just lives.

Reminiscent of Strugatsky brothers
Wordier/longer
Good story not sure the translation is up to it.
Fantastic ideas in later books of trilogy. Even wilder than Heechee saga.

Reading #RoadsidePicnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky is like reading the cut content from a better book.

The Dead Mountaineer's Inn by the Strugatsky brothers

Truly one of the most lovable books I've ever read

Russia’s new “Hard to Be a God” series adds more characters, more adventures, and more spectacle to the Strugatskys’ classic novel. It leaves out the politics.

I think tonight I’m going to revisit Tarkovsky’s STALKER. This is a great example of an adaptation of a good book that’s very different from the source material and it works. The Strugatsky brothers’ book “Roadside Picnic” is worth reading too.

One Billion Years to the End of The World by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. I've read it four or five times, and it still turns my head inside out.

Next up in the Tarkovsky retrospective at the GFT, and it's a biggie tonight, Stalker. With a screenplay written by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, loosely based on their sci-fi novel Roadside Picnic.

Soviet fantasy stories are a good place to start. Most of the works blend various Slavic folklore with the mundane world of the Soviet Union. Monday Begins on Saturday by Boris and Arkady Strugatsky is a good starting point. Magical creatures are mundane and everyone knows Baba Yaga.
