Read banned books and study banned disciplines.
This is how disciplines die.

Now that Sociology courses don't count for GenEd credit, far fewer students will take them, let alone choose Sociology as a major. And so, Sociology department budgets will shrink, meaning fewer faculty and fewer courses offered.

Florida bans sociology from core curriculum at state universities
For years, Republican lawmakers and education leaders have argued that sociology — especially high-enrollment introductory courses — has been overtaken by progressive ideology

I don't do a lot of promos and I haven't read this book yet but I'm really excited about it and will start it on Kindle later today.

On Saturdays, I sometimes visit a history club,
where they hold good lessons on history.
I was there today.
The night attack didn’t stop it from happening.

Knowledge is power.
Please study history, read books, discover your land’s culture.

I used to run a study group for the military fellows at Stanford on books they’d pretended they’d read. Mahan always featured.
Books you haven’t read and feel shamed that you haven’t.

Read!! Books!!! Pick books in the style and genre you want to emulate. Pick books that will challenge you. Pick books that will make you think or are just FUN.

And STUDY what you read. I love annotating books as I read them, finding passages I wanna learn from.

It's not just my opinion. Studies show that access to diverse books positively impacts children's reading scores. This fabulous study from First Book explains this in detail.

Successful readers read widely, and that means reading all kinds of books.

"I began my life as I shall no doubt end it: among books. In my grandfather's study, they were everywhere; it was forbidden to dust them except once a year, before the October term. Even before I could read, I already revered these raised stones..."

Welp. So the *faculty* got suspended for their “study-in” protest in which they simply read books on free speech and displayed small signs quoting the library’s own mission statement.

As to the question of whether Bluesky sells books, I know that I've hand-sold here at least a dozen copies of this, one of the greatest works of nonfiction I've ever read, and I won't rest till everyone else has read it too.

My grandfather's study was full of Asterix books he'd stolen from an air force base. I learned to read using those. Listen to this.
The biggest selling comic of all time is One Piece. The second biggest is not from the US or UK.

It's French.

DELIGHTED to welcome @juliekalman.bsky.social onto Untitled History Pod to talk origins of Asterix the Gaul and how it made modern France.

If only there were books or a field of study about these things, and if only our leaders read, studied and understood them.

you technically don't "have to" read books or study other artists or watch film or listen to neat or obscure music to write, draw, or make music, but why wouldn't you? why deny yourself that at the only moment in history where so much artistic creation is accessible?

The bourgeoisie has burned books, banned theory, and silenced revolutionary study. Why?

Because reading with purpose builds clarity.

Clarity builds confidence.

Confidence builds power.

Read like your future depends on it—because it does.

That said - I read plenty of non-age-appropriate books of all kinds, and disliked librarians who tried to gate-keep. And I grew up to be a…Senator? Hm. Perhaps I am a case study for the dangers of books promiscuously read! (As John Milton put it.)

Koji Fox continued: "Study Japanese. Use it. Read a lot. Reading and comprehending it at English level speed is necessary. You can't be slow. Absorb culture. TV. Books. Manga. Movies. Older culture. Collect as many reference points as possible. Also, the easiest one: play a lot of games."

A formative experience for me as a child was seeing the personal library my mom (a Ph.D) kept in her study and asking how many of those hundreds of books she had actually read all the way through, and her very matter-of-fact-my explaining how and why she had read *all* of them, *multiple times*
