College Spanish professor took points off a test question where I used subjunctive (correctly) because we hadn't studied the subjunctive chapter yet.

(I only learned this distinction so that when students asked how the *English* subjunctive worked when I was explaining the Latin subjunctive, I could give a correct answer.
