I can see why UCAS has turned away from looking at extracurricular activities: they’re essentially just a proxy for “how rich your parents are” (while supercurricular activities aren’t? 🤔). But it’s depressing to see yet another incentive towards early hyper-specialisation and away from roundedness

Weird how quickly the politics of university applications change. Our 17yo informed us last night that “extracurricular activities” are now frowned upon for UCAS purposes. It’s all “supercurricular activities” instead – extra work relating to your chosen subject. Our 23yo had never heard the term!

We’re launching our St Anne’s Supercurricular Club this term! These online sessions are aimed at current Y12 students who would like to engage with researchers in their chosen subject area, and widen their academic interests.
