Listening to the pod, I alternated between empathy and fury.

The man had no idea that supplements aren’t regulated by the FDA. He just bought them from some random after he “researched” the peptides.

Prior to this he was a big anti-pharma guy. Felt supplements were the way.

I keep getting an ad that says something like "buy supplements from someone whose only business is supplements, not a big company that does a little of everything," and I can't think of anyone less trustworthy than a company that specializes in supplements.

Peptides absolutely fall into the same category for me of "absolutely the fuck not"

When I TAed genetics as a grad student, we DNA sequenced herbal supplements. Every single one was some combo of mint, catnip, and maybe chamomile if you were lucky, regardless of label.
I listened to a podcast yesterday about a guy who purchased peptides on the internet.

Then he grew paranoid, separated from his wife whom he was convinced was conspiring against him, blew all of his money, became severely depressed, etc.

Turns out the “peptides” were anabolic steroids.
