The ironic twist is that the war that Fraser was protesting against ended up sending ANZACs to assist the UK to occupy Palestine resulting in several civilian massacres, the best known being the Surafend massacre.

Some have argued that the involvement of soldiers in the South African War of 1899-1902, as part of imperial institutions, helped to entrench racist and abusive practices amongst the ANZACs, which would be reflected in the 1918 Surafend massacre.
