As unemployment and job insecurity continue to put pressure on Black women, author Jodi-Ann Burey is offering a pragmatic message: survival may sometimes require adapting at work while finding ways to protect and strengthen one’s identity outside it. Speaking during an episode of NPR’s Code Switch, Burey, author of Authentic: The Myth of Bringing Your Full Self to Work, discussed the challenge Black women can face when employment is scarce and workplaces demand conformity.
