Speaking during an episode of NPR’s Code Switch, Burey, author of Authentic: The Myth of Bringing Your Full Self to Work, discussed the challenge Black women can face when employment is scarce and workplaces demand conformity.
Her advice was blunt.
“Do what you got to do,” Burey said. “We are all trying to survive capitalism, period.”
