STOCKHOLM — The Suroyo (Syriac–Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) presence has not been absent from the electoral scene in Sweden. Rather, it has been present, active, and influential, with considerable popularity at the parliamentary and municipal levels. After the victory of two Suroye politicians, Ilan De Basso (Social Democratic Party) and Paul Sabo (Christian Democratic Party), as members of the Swedish Parliament on 13 September elections, reports indicated that other Suroye were elected to the Swedish Parliament.

STOCKHOLM — The European Syriac Union (ESU) congratulated Suroyo (Syriac–Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) politicians Ilan De Basso and Paul Sabo following their election to Sweden’s Riksdag in the country’s 13 September parliamentary elections. The ESU said in separate messages to the newly elected lawmakers that it hoped they would play an active role in the Swedish Parliament and contribute to advancing issues concerning the Suroyo community in Sweden.
