The Canberra Raiders are poised to make their first-ever NRLW grand final appearance after securing a spot in the preliminary final against the Sydney Roosters. The team, led by a core group of nine players who were part of the inaugural 2023 squad, is determined to create club history. Coach Darrin Borthwick emphasized that the team's vision has remained unchanged since their formation, with players who have stayed with the club since its inception now driving the push for premiership glory. Key players like Simaima Taufa, a veteran leader, are serving a suspension for the match but remain instrumental in motivating the squad. New recruit Chloe Saunders, who experienced a grand final defeat with the Sharks in 2024, is focused on redemption and believes the Raiders' strong camaraderie and ability to maintain pressure throughout the game will be crucial. The Raiders' squad includes a mix of experienced players and new additions, with the team acknowledging the Roosters' strength as a 70-minute team that capitalises on errors. The preliminary final will be played at Moore Park in Sydney on Saturday at 7:50pm, with both teams fielding their full line-ups. The Raiders' journey from their 2023 foundation to this pivotal moment highlights their growth and determination to achieve what has eluded them in previous seasons. The team's unity and strategic focus on sustained performance, rather than short-term gains, underscore their realistic yet ambitious approach to the grand final. With a blend of veteran leadership and youthful energy, the Raiders are confident they can overcome the Roosters and etch their names into club history.
