In case anyone hasn’t seen them in person, quite a few of the trucks on O’Connell street are covered in tricolours and it’s not because they support the women’s soccer team. The “take back our country” placard doesn’t mean “from the grey squirrels”.

Bundoran and Trim bigots out this evening. Niall McConnell was handing out free tricolours for anyone that didn't have any from Andy Quirke already. The Trim bigots didn't bother with any tricolours, ohh that's going to upset some people 🙄🤡

I would love Ireland to qualify for the World Cup for all the usual reasons. But it would also be fantastic to have the whole country festooned in tricolours that haven't been put up by the "Ireland is Full" lot.

There are tricolours aplenty, as well as 'Well done Kate' signs and bunting along the street where Kate O'Connor grew up in Dundalk, Co Louth.

Let’s not kid ourselves there isn’t something very sinister about allowing city centres to be covered by tricolours erected by the Far Right in Ireland and few moves to take them down. The national flag is not the problem but how it’s being used as an intimidatory and exclusionary symbol.
