In Ontario, synagogues can hire police officers for paid-duty security. In Quebec, they can’t. After the Belleville synagogue shooting, Jewish leaders are again calling for changes to the rules.

In my MoDox synagogue, relatively progressive as it is, it is still very unusual for there to be only children; that is primarily where people have given me looks. But I live in an expensive city, where the # of kids you have is also related to your presumed wealth, so that’s not the only place.

Like when I went to our reform synagogue I was kinda struck by how joyful everyone was bc that is not something I associate with Judaism, but maybe that's just my family? There is only a heavy, fearful sadness that I see in my Jewish family.
