so turns out it's closer to 95% free plugins lmao
and the paid ones are only used in a couple of songs each

I left out all the stock Reaper plugins which primarily consist of compressors, LP filters, and limiters

so yeah if you want a list of good free VSTs for electronic music here ya go :)

SynthEdit 1.6 (beta) adds native macOS support
Version 1.6 of SynthEdit now runs natively on macOS, allowing users to patch modules together on a canvas, design a front panel, and export the result as a VST3 or Audio Unit plugin.

i'll bet anything that the only reason it's finally on Mac now is because the creator used AI to port it. I can't begin to imagine the jank of an AI SynthEdit plugin. holy shit.

jesus christ.... SynthEdit just got an update that makes it run on MacOS after decades of windows only. i thought this could be the antidote to all of the AI crap plugins flooding the scene lately, but then i go to the SynthEdit website and it's a fucking AI website

incredible design here, not a pixel of wasted space 🙄

i hate that this makes me hate amateur developers, the whole thing i used to love is the jank of amateur developers in plugins. they were like zines or outsider art, expressive little weird ugly in a good way things, even the SynthEdit junk

based on the vibes idk if she would want anyone to link it publically on a site like this, but i found a neocities page by a trans gal who made a shit ton of her own 32-bit plugins using an old copy of synthedit and packaged 'em all up in a zip folder so I might just use those and nothing else

Dog help me, I think i'm going to Make A Video about this. half or more of the free plugins posted to BPB the past two weeks have had AI generated sites like this, which makes me suspect all the plugins they host are AI generated too. I'm tellin' y'all, this is SynthEdit 2.0 and far worse
about a month ago an internet friend made me aware of the specific web design look that AI generates and I've never felt more like I've had the They Live glasses in my life. It's saved me from supporting AI jerks, but what I really hate is I like the look of the trendy serif fonts sometimes.

i need to stop trolling myself by looking at kvraudio new plugins like all the synthedit stuff of yesteryear got replaced with grok dsp

I just can't get excited about plugins anymore because the whole ecosystem is polluted now. This is probably great news for my productivity since I can just ignore everything made past 2025 now, but it's a shame. AI plugin developers should have to put the "Made with Synthedit" button on releases

#bpb Report by Tomislav Zlatic: "Vibe-coded plugins are giving me SynthEdit déjà vu"

Some BPB readers are excited about being able to type “give me an overdrive that sounds like a Tube Screamer” and get a working plugin out the other end. Others are pretty concerned that we’re about to drown in […]

Made something in synthedit along these lines. Not quite there yet I think, but the degradation effect actually goes into the right direction.

there's this rad program called synthedit where you can create synthesizers from like... first principles?

🎵The oscilator bone connects to the envelope bone
the envelope bone connects to the filter bone
The filter bone connects to the amplifier bone
And it goes boi-yoi-yoi-yoing. 🎵

This is way cool. I've been playing with this thing for a lot of years and it's kinda similar. Things like this are a really good way to learn about synthesis and how it actually functions under-the-hood.

I’ve often disregarded plugins because of horrible GUIs. A while back Cherry Audio released a flagship synth (instead of their usual clones) and the interface looked so much like a SynthEdit car crash I didn’t even bother listening to it. A bit judgy I know, but one has standards!
