Horror movie hot take. Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Next Generation is a good movie and at the very least feels like a proper Texas Chainsaw movie unlike Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3. TCM3 is just a generic slasher film with a TCM coat of paint

Agreed on all three points. TCM3 was apparently severely f’ed with by studio interference. No idea if the original intent would have been better, but it would have been more interesting for sure. TCM4 has flashes of real brilliance, 2 is still my fav sequel but the strong parts of 4 are wonderful.

Popped on the much maligned Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (aka. The Return of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and it's amazing how writer/director Kim Henkel's voice cuts straight through. It's instantly engaging in a way TCM3 never managed.

The difference between 70s and 80s American horror is incarnated by Texas Chainsaw Massacres 1 & 2. Both are good. TCM3 expands the trend by representing what happens when you really make a franchise of the thing, and don't shoot in Texas (literally going Hollywood). It's bad.
