Worth saying that a curriculum change is *not* a book ban. A teacher may replace/update TKAM in their curriculum. Students can still access TKAM at their school library or in a classroom library. M4L want to remove books from classrooms, libraries, & other public spaces. Intent & access matter here!

TKAM didn't make me hate the south, it made me ashamed of white supremacists & conservative culture. And to aspire to be progressive in my ideology & community responsibility.

I'm 10 years younger than you, and I got a fine education in Texas public schools. I don't recall TKaM being required reading but I know we read Steinbeck and other authors who are now on challenged and banned lists.
