We have follow-up observations of TRAPPIST-1e ongoing (led by Néstor Espinoza and Natalie Allen), which will provide 15 (!) more transits of TRAPPIST-1e.

So if TRAPPIST-1e does indeed have an atmosphere, we will soon have the data to settle the enigma of this world.

I am thinking about moving to another planet following recent political events. TRAPPIST-1e looks nice. 40 lightyears away, tidally locked so one side always faces its red dwarf star, but the twilight zone in between the halves might just be habitable. A fresh start anyone? 🔭🪐

TRAPPIST-1e is 92% Earth's size, 69% Earth's mass, and is illuminated by 66% of the integrated light that Earth receives.

This means TRAPPIST-1e can potentially have liquid surface water *if* it has an atmosphere with a sufficient greenhouse effect.

So TRAPPIST-1e was a priority target for JWST.

If we’re going to find life, TRAPPIST-1e might be our best bet.

By next year, we should know for sure if this alien planet has an atmosphere. But already there is excitement at hints this is not a barren world.

An intriguing study of Earth-size planet Trappist-1e was overshadowed this week by Mars news (and...other things).

Most Earth-size planets in our galaxy orbit red dwarf stars. Trappist-1e offers our best chance to learn whether such planets can support life. 🧪🔭

Planets that orbit very close to their star may experience enough Joule heating from interactions between the stellar magnetic field and their upper atmospheres to significantly affect atmospheric loss rates:
iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3...
For example, Trappist-1e orbiting at 0.028 AU.
