Here is a sacred space on Sunday. The Temple of Bel, Palmyra-Tadmor, Syria. Dedicated to Bel in 32 CE, the building later became a Christian church and a Mosque. My photo of 2004, it was destroyed by Daesh/ISIS in 2015.

Basic background resources for those who not familiar with Saydnaya (also Sednaya/Seydnaya/Sadnaya) & other notorious Syrian prisons such as Tadmor (destroyed 2015), Mazzeh (Air Force Intelligence/Mazzeh Mil Airport), & Qism Falastin (Palestine Branch/Branch 235).

The sheer magnitude of this. 1/6
The absolute horrors of the Assad regime exemplified by Saydnaya prison. Many prisoners are not freed yet bcs the rebels cannot get to them as they are 3 floors underground. #Syria

Well, that emergency alert was a bit scary because it's real. Evacuation from Tadmor Valley all the way to Riwaka.

Our nightmare has lifted for a day. May everyone find their disappeared, and may we never ever ever have to tremble when thinking of Tadmor and Saidnaya. May he be the last of the tyrants.

If I were in Democratic Senator, I would fly prisoners freshly released from Tadmor prison & Sednaya prison to testify in Tulsi Gabbard’s confirmation hearing.

It’s just totally insane that the incoming DNI was (probably still is) an outright backer & supporter of the Assad regime.
Hoping Tulsi's firmly out of contention for director of national intelligence after tonight.

Some ppl being freed from these prisons/gulags/dungeons were incarcerated before the Syrian Civil War. There were prisoners from the Lebanese Civil War/Syrian occupation of Lebanon in Tadmor in 2015. The Assad regime imprisoned unimaginable numbers of Syrians, but also Lebanese & Palestinians 6/6

Palmyra, or Tadmor, was a Neolithic settlement, Palmyrene, Greek, and Roman. Its scale is massive and was heavily damaged in 2015 by the war. An infamous prison, called Tadmor, where Assad's father and then Assad held dissidents is nearby.
