Soon enough they'll be finding their way to tamarisks, fennel clumps and carob trees on Linosa, as well
It's the time of year when Yellow-browed Warblers find their way to lonely coastal sycamores. This was one of two along the north side of Girdle Ness today.

The wintering Yellow-browed Warbler at Trenow, Cornwall (19th Feb 25) was fly catching on the rocks by the beach tamarisks today. It’s been present here since early January. Also enjoys the company of at least 14 Chiffs wintering along the cove.
My first YBW for the year.

I walked 2 km up to Laguna de Jeli from the A 390 this AM hoping to find that the winter's rains had revitalised it. Sadly, it's now 100% enveloped by tamarisks. No water now visible from the hide. Fancy "observatios" are pointless without actively managing the reserve accordingly.

Starting a thread for writing and things.
Here's a short piece I wrote about Abraham and his funny habit of building altars near trees:

The wildflowers were a pleasant distraction from the birds on Lesvos recently. It was lovely to see such colourful profusions in most places we visited.

/3 and with patience a few (5 or 6 assumed newly-arrived) Chiffs could be found taking shelter and feeding in the bushes and tamarisks on the south side of the lagoon alongside the car park.

Invasive trees fuel Arizona fires. What's being done to curb them
This wildfire season, brushy tamarisks, also known as salt cedars, are a catalyst for Arizona blazes that foul the air with acrid smoke.

I think it depends on location. The sweet sap of the manna ash is one form associated with the name. There are several other explanations too. In some traditions manna was believed to fall from heaven like dew, while others suggest it was honeydew excreted by insects feeding on tamarisks and oaks.

sometimes I get lost in the thick tamarisks on the banks of my own damn smartphone

Thanks mate, the next few weeks look a bit tasty. I’ve been busily making note of coastal locations with Cypress trees and Tamarisks

The wonderful Tamarisk tree of the Platja de Grifeu - a tree that got its towel on the beach long before the rest of us. Tamarisks famously recycle salt to discourage plants around them, and some apparently drop "manna from heaven" (never seen it!). This one seems happy enough, despite the drought!

Ohhhh the Paria, those elephant leg formations, tamarisks in bloom, hummingbirds in side canyons...nice long walk I took in 1986. I still wear the needlepoint ring I bought at the Marble Canyon Lodge, every day.

Athel pine I think. The reveg at the start of the walk trail to south beach has lots of sheoaks, but nearer the beach there is a stand of tamarisks/Athel pines which are not native and may date back decades
