"From jigging veins of rhyming mother wits,
And such conceits as clownage keeps in pay,
We'll lead you to the stately tent of war,
Where you shall hear the Scythian Tamburlaine
Threatening the world with high astounding terms,
And scourging kingdoms with his conquering sword."

For #ShakespeareSunday’s Chaos & Order theme I’m resharing this thread about Shakespeare’s great contemporary Christopher Marlowe, and specifically Tamburlaine, which at one point rather dominated my life…Tamburlaine destroys old decaying orders and imposes on them his own violent caprices and chaos
Congratulations Diana @dianahenderson.bsky.social The prominence accorded here to Marlowe’s mighty line prompted me to record a speech that’s very special to me. From Tamburlaine the Great Part One #poetrycommunity #marlowe #Shakespeare

Terrible news about his death. Fair to say I had long burned a candle for the lovely and brilliant Anthony Head, and he came on Front Row back in 2017 to discuss his career from the coffee ads to Buffy and more. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b...

I love Marlowe and Con is so good as Tamburlaine, but it's very funny that the producers for this adaptation were like "What do scary shepherds sound like?" and the whole room replied "Northerners."

Latest read. Four plays by Marlowe. Faustus is fantastic, I’ll surely revisit it. ”The Jew of Malta” and “Edward II” are great as well, thrilling and dramatic.

Didn’t love Tamburlaine (I&II). Unsatisfying arc. A bit repetitive with small payoffs. Great template for a villain, though.

Fun fact: Alleyn, earlier famed for title roles in Dr Faustus and Tamburlaine, became John Donne's son-in-law (m., as his second wife, Donne's eldest, Constance, 3 Dec. 1623, at Camberwell). #earlymodern

On 30th May 1593 Christopher Marlowe was stabbed to death in Deptford in circumstances that have provoked centuries of conjecture. Marlowe’s status as a great playwright should however be beyond dispute. Here’s a thread👇with my recordings from his Tamburlaine the Great #shakespearesunday #poemsaloud

I think Eorzea should have its own version of "Tamburlaine" that they think is 100% accurate to Othard.
