“How did you get into TTRPGs?”

Blame the Intellivision console and their D&D video games (Treasure of Tarmin, anyone?). So my brother purchased the Red Box, and we were really disappointed that there was no board to play on! My brother began reading it and within a week we were rolling the dice…

Oh no I did not ho early enough, AD&D: Treasure of Tarmin should be on there.

The buffed-up version of Treasures of Tarmin? Yeah, that was something back then.

I remember losing my shit over the baseball game that they were showing with the Intellivision keyboard/ECS, which also flopped spectacularly.

For Intellivision,
AD&D: Treasure of Tarmin

I begged my Dad to get it for me, and played it all the time.

Mattel Intellivision:

1) Utopia
2) Treasure of Tarmin (Advanced D&D licensed title)
3) Tron Deadly Discs
4) NFL Football
5) Burgertime

I wanted to stick to titles that didn't need any expansion (like the Intellivoice add-on).
I'm curious, peeps: For your favourite console, handheld, or computer, what starter pack of games (Let's max it out at five) would you recommend to someone to show it and best introduce them to it?

Young me's mind...blown.

1. Pong (yes, I'm that old)
2. (child me) Advanced D&D: Treasure of Tarmin, (older me) Dragon Age: Origins
3. A remaster of DA: Origins or KOTOR 1 or 2. 😭 (like a Blue Point type remaster, probably will never happen)
3 questions

1. What's the first video game you remember playing
2. What video game do you think had the biggest impact on your life
3. What future video game are you most looking forward to (even if it'll never be made)

Honestly, the last few years of actually reappraising everything after the Tarmin Amzarian episode has been the most interesting part of actually talking about Simpsons. Like, it’s not like they’ve done nothing since, stuff happened in those episodes worth examining.

I like how the denizens of the dungeon are divided into Bad Monsters, Nasty Monsters, and Horrible Monsters. (2/2)

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Treasure of Tarmin for the Mattel Intellivision, released in 1983. A first-person perspective dungeon-exploration RPG, with 3-D corridor mazes. This was a big step up for console video games. (1/2)

Unfortunately, the videogame crash of 1983/1984 hit Mattel particularly hard and Treasure of Tarmin didn't quite get the attention it deserved. It's an underappreciated game, complicated and tough, advanced for the time, and worth checking out.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Treasure of Tarmin, released for the Mattel Intellivision in 1983. Mattel followed up on its first AD&D game with a fully developed 1st-person-perspective dungeon-crawler RPG with gameplay depth more like you'd expect from a computer than a console.
