Heck, there’s ~69 million years between humans and tarsiers.

Grifter bullshit

OK, this is extremely cool. Comparable to the alligator bungie genitalia or the lid that keeps tarsiers' eyes in their head when they jump!

A paper in Scientific Reports shows that chameleons have evolved a longer, coiled optic nerve that is likely to provide “slack” to reduce tension on the optic nerve during the extensive rotations characteristic of the chameleon eye. go.nature.com/3JTSgQ1 #evosky 🧪

The highlight of our Bohol trip this weekend were the tarsiers. Tarsiers are one of the world's smallest primates, measuring only 3-6 inches in height.

Tarsiers are nocturnal and hunt insects at night, using their incredibly long legs (and tarsial ankle bones!) to leap great distances.

tarsiers also murder the offspring of rival males which is probably an important lesson about how the cuteness of a creature has zero relationship to its horrific personal habits
Tarsiers will mob threats, so we sort of get a real life example of the "who would you rather fight, one human sized primates or 100 tarsier sized primates" question.
today has been terrifying but hey, want to see a tarsier

Spectral tarsiers (Tarsius tarsier), also called eastern tarsiers, are endemic to Sulawesi, Indonesia. Small nocturnal carnivores. Spectral tarsier populations have steadily declined, and continue to decline, as human activity drastically reshapes Sulawesi's landscape. Listed as Vulnerable.

Did you know? 🐵 Tarsiers have eyes so big, they’re larger than their brains! These tiny, nocturnal ninjas can leap 5 meters in a single bound and twist their heads 180° like mini exorcists. Bug hunting pros or the ultimate spies? 🌌 #WildFacts

Dian's tarsiers (Tarsius dentatus) are native to Sulawesi. Nocturnal, arboreal, and social. Just before dawn, they sing territorial duets before returning to their sleeping sites. Threatened by habitat loss, agricultural pesticides, and predation by domestic animals. Vulnerable.

It's calculated as the ratio of arms (humerus + radius) to legs (femur + tibia) x 100.

The arm-swinging primates (brachiators) like gibbons, siamangs have IMI >130
Knuckle walkers like chimps & gorillas IMI ~80-100
Vertical *leapers* like Tarsiers <70.

The sifaka has an IMI of ~50!

#DYK it is rumored that the character design for Yoda was inspired by tarsiers?

The resemblance is uncanny!
