10 Dec 1803 // 26-gun 5th-rate HMS Shannon was driven ashore on Tatihou Island near Barfleur during a gale. She was fired upon by a French battery leaving three dead, and was abandoned. On 16 December HMS Merlin sent in a party to burn the Shannon, to prevent capture. #RoyalNavy #NavalHistory

Anecdote familiale. Une cousine disait qu'une de ses tantes, une dame âgée du pays roannais, demandait sans arrêt quand une voiture passait devant chez elle, aux autres occupants de la maison : "T'as t'y vu, t'as t'y connu ?"
Du coup quand on me dit Tatihou, j'ai envie d'enchaîner "T'as t'y connou".

Low spring tide at Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue in the northern Cotentin,
Normandy is a clear reminder of the dangers of this Channel coastline. As is the 11th-century sailors’ chapel, where those lost at sea throughout the centuries are remembered, and those lucky enough to come home give thanks.
