Anyone else catch Seymour stating on Breakfast this morning that we don’t need a new tax because the government has more money than most?

The same government that tells us it has no money for anything that isn’t a road. 🤦‍♂️ #nzpol

I’ll say it for them.

“WE NEED TO TAX THE RICH”

Cue the sky falling in three two one…🙄 #nzpol #TaxWealthMore #TaxWorkLess #TaxReformNZ
The solutions proposed for New Zealand's (and virtually every other country's) problems are always like:
"We need to make people work for more years"
"We have to cut back on services, I'm sorry, there is just no other way"
"We have to cut benefits for young people"

never:
"We need to tax the rich"

Two generations ago one job was enough to pay your bills, support a family of four & buy your own home. Just saying.

It’s a reverse Robin Hood scheme, where wage theft of the masses is funnelled to the top in the false belief that corporates drive the economy, when in fact the corporates wouldn’t have an economy without the workers, or consumers having the income to afford to consume. #nzpol #TaxReformNZ #Aotearoa
#nzpol we know this, we live this everyday but we've still got politicians in Aotearoa NZ on $300,000 + pedalling this "theory" & people voting for it thinking somehow "they'll" be the ones to get on to the top tier, it's like a fricken pyramid scheme people.
Look at the results not the promises.
America has had “50 years in which we did not make the right decisions” economically, says @rbreich.bsky.social‬. ‘Trickle-down economics is a hoax’ #Velshi

This is a good piece.
I would add that beyond taxation of wealth already extracted (however you want to label it) there must be laws making such unequal extraction and accumulation impossible in the first place.

Side note: You’d think before you unilaterally redesign our nations privacy laws, laws designed to protect all kiwi citizens, you might want to circle back to the WHY of an increasing problem, before you get straight to the WHO 💭🤔 #nzpol #Aotearoa #NZ #CostOfLuxonCrisis #TaxReformNZ #NZpolitics

The boomers (not all but most) really have had a pretty charmed deal in life, haven’t they?
-Cheap home ownership
-Free tertiary education
-Free & accessible lifelong healthcare
-Get to retire, before they die…

“the case for panicking about the public finances remains unconvincing. The case for tax reform, by contrast, just got a whole heap stronger.”

The Treasury’s dire warning: New Zealand may have to look a bit more like Europe
A startling truth has emerged from a new long-term forecast: we may have to resign ourselves to paying taxes at a rate most Europeans would take for granted.

We need tax cuts.
We also need new bands with higher rates.
We need tax reform.
Our lowest income earners pay one of the highest rates in the OECD while our high incomes pay some of the lowest.
