Studies now link routine adult vaccination to a lower risk of Alzheimer's and other dementias in older adults. The lower risk applies not only to the flu vaccine, but also to the shingles vaccine, pneumococcal vaccine, and the diptheria, pertussis tetanus vaccine (Tdap).

When I hit 60, my doctor recommended getting an MMR booster, which I did. Those of use who got immunized before 1970 almost certainly need a booster. TDAP every decade.
October 1, 2026 at 5:44 PM
Related; adults are supposed to get a TDAP booster every decade or so-also worth revisiting if you are middle aged.

Same, except I had measles and mumps, but never had German measles (rubella). I also got a TDAP and shingles. I technically never had chickenpox, but I test positive for it and I’ve had a “mild”case of shingles (the pain came and went for about 4 years).

Also good advice if someone you know is having a baby soon. Get that Tdap before you visit.
Just a reminder, if you’re an adult, you need to get regular boosters for pertussis/whooping cough. It’s with the tetanus vaccine, make sure when you get a tetanus booster that you ask for and get a Tdap one. They recommend tetanus shots every seven years or so, and if you get an injury that could

TDAP and flu?
September 30, 2026 at 8:48 PM
You are wrong. My Massachusetts "boomer" friends and I all keep up-to-date on our vaccines... Covid, flu, shingles, TDAP, Pneumococcal conjugate.

I got the flu shot, COVID booster, and tdap booster yesterday and my arm has a big puffy red welt :')

The Tdap vaccine prevents pertussis, aka whooping cough, which killed 16 people last year, mostly newborns. When babies are that small, their airways can easily swell shut.

Why are fewer pregnant people getting vaccinated?

In 2020, US maternal Tdap vaccination rates began dropping after years of steady increases

A new paper indicates that maternal age and number of doctor visits influences Tdap vaccination status.

“In 2016, 84.8% of pregnant women were vaccinated for Tdap. The number of moms-to-be vaccinated for Tdap reached its zenith in 2019, at 88.7% of pregnant women. But thereafter, vaccination rates slipped, and by 2023, only 83.9% of pregnant women received a dose” www.cidrap.umn.edu/diphtheria/2...
