Classroom prompt: the kids at the fence didn't beg. They split two sticks of gum fairly. Ask students why that moment changed how one pilot saw a city his country had been at war with 3 years earlier. #TeachingHistory

Why #TeachingHistory matters. A lot.

Tucker Carlson puts forth a defense of Nazi Germany.

Poland’s chargé d’affairs to the US schools him on what really took place and why his historical revisionism is dangerous.

Opinion | Tucker Carlson would have you forget the truth about Hitler. Don’t.
In a conversation with Jacob Rees-Mogg, the commentator played fast and loose with the historical record.

I try my best to tackle misinformation during school visits. It's concerning what school kids pick up from consuming "alleged" history on tik tok and youtube. I now I'm having to work against this too. #TeachingHistory #Museums #OnlineSafetyBill

Important read. #teachinghistory . “In the face of fascism and authoritarianism, we must collectively fight for fully-funded public schools as a public good, as community hubs that are equitably available to all, and where we teach the truth and affirm students’ identities, histories, and cultures.”
We Must Defend Black History — It Fuels Freedom Dreams of Students Under Attack | George Yancy

Historian Elizabeth Todd-Breland discusses how schools have become a key site of struggle amid rising fascism in the US.

A colleague at Stanford’s business school used The Stanford Daily to argue—poorly—against DEI. The piece was riddled with historical errors and left one searching for fact, so I broke my public writing hiatus to respond.

I hope you’ll read and share the piece.

What DEI threatens isn’t merit. It’s monopoly.
Political science professor Hakeem Jefferson argues for DEI's importance to de-monopolizing universities.

Civics, social studies teachers have so much great stuff to pull from the headlines these days.

This bit from Musk should be fodder for every classroom, cuz tweens and teens can easily demolish this.

Amazing that journalists so often cannot.

Erin does a great job of summarizing the terroristic attack on the rights of trans people represented by this EO.

But it also includes horrifying rules for the teaching of US history that relates to nonwhite persons, as well as wildly fascist “patriotic education” edicts. Lowlights, a thread:
1. Breaking News: Donald Trump has signed an executive order targeting trans youth and teachers in schools who teach for them.

It goes after "social transition" and threatens arrests.

I will go through line by line, as I have the last 3 nights.

Find the EO here:
