#TelNum news: Today, British Columbia adds overlay #AreaCode 257, bringing the province to 6 area codes.

That’s too many. It’s unsustainable. Canada is using far more than its fair share, clinging to outdated 20th-century policies that waste numbers by the tens of thousands.

Moving means no static address. Sometimes no static phone. Which means applications for better jobs is fraught. Email is a godsend here, and there used to be free telnum redirect services which helped, but those seem to have vanished. It means your kids go to a new school every year, or semester.

Coming up this week in #TelNum news: NE #California (Redding, Davis, Truckee, Lassen) #AreaCode 530 gets 837 overlay.

As of today (2/24/25), all calls in northern #Louisiana’s #AreaCode 318 can be dialed with the area code, in preparation for September’s 318 & 457 overlay.

You have 6 months to get used to 10-digit dialing, mandatory as of 8/25/25.

JUST IN TIME!

California is adding an overlay to #telnum #AreaCode 530 later this week, not a moment too soon. Out of nearly 800 possible prefixes, they’re down to just 11 available.

I’ve been busy this fall, making substantial #accessibility improvements to my website, LincMad.com, particularly for #ScreenReader users.

As of today, #Houston officially has 5 #AreaCodes (713, 281, 832, 346, and 621)— but you won’t see any 621 numbers just yet (other than the test number 621-621-1621), because there are still more than a hundred unused prefixes in 346.

The only other quintuplets are Atlanta, Alberta & BC.
