“One person controls the body by treating it like their own body, the other person operates the non-anthropomorphic systems and weapons” would be the less cool weird version that would make more sense, lol.

love the idea that teleoperation becomes qualitatively different as body size increases!

State cash for robot data-collection centres is a real bet: real teleoperation hours are the scarce input for embodied AI. Without published throughput or usable-hour figures, though, hard to see these beating a JD.com-scale warehouse floor for training data.
Valuation Bubble or Real Demand? The Truth About Embodied-AI Data-Collection Centres
An investigation into China’s embodied-AI data-collection centres examines a fast-spreading model in which local state capital buys robot hardware and companies buy back the data, and asks whether the resulting revenue reflects real demand or inflated valuations ahead of IPOs.

1X Neo Robot Sells Out Preorders Even After Teleoperation Reveal
A $20,000 robot that folds laundry sold out its first production run in five days, even after buyers learned a stranger in a VR headset might be the one actually doing it. 1X Technologies opened preorders for Neo, its humanoid home robot, on October 28. Within five days, the company had taken orders covering its first year of production capacity, roughly 10,000 units, built at a 58,000-square-foot factory in Hayward, California. Buyers can pay $20,000 outright or $499 a month on subscription, both options gated by a refundable $200 deposit. Shipments to US customers are expected to begin in 2026, with a wider international rollout planned for 2027. Neo looks like the robot you've been promised for a decade: it folds laundry, loads the dishwasher, tidies a living room. What's different is how much of that work is actually done by a robot at all. A chunk of it runs through what 1X calls Expert Mode, where a human operator at the company puts on a Meta Quest 3 headset and drives Neo by hand through your house, task by task. The Wall Street Journal tested the product and found that 100% of the household work it observed was teleoperated,...
