South Korea has also seen some of the worst that crypto has to offer: the 2022 collapse of Terra (LUNA), founded by Korean national Do Kwon, threw the entire industry into a crisis. But economic catastrophe is nothing new to a country whose modern history has been defined by repeated cycles of destruction and reconstruction. The Block’s new feature documentary, Do Kwon & The Korean Comeback Cycle, asks what these cycles tell us about Korea’s people, as well as the future of its ongoing blockchain revolution. “Korea continually crafts its future using remnants from its past.” Produced in partnership with BNB Chain, the film traces Korea’s history through successive periods of crisis, from the Japanese occupation and Korean War to the 1997 Asian financial crisis, when the won lost over 50% of its value against the dollar in less than three months.
