The “I don’t alt-text because AI is using alt text to learn” people make zero sense to me. Do they think that their thousands of text based posts on this text based website aren’t being scraped by AI, only alt texts? It is completely ridiculous. Use real alt text because real people need it
If your alt text just says "text" or something similar or intentionally misrepresents what's in the image to "trick the AI scrapers" you're also being an asshole to those with disabilities who rely on alt text. Don't be an asshole.
As Bluesky has grown, I've seen a lot of backsliding on alt text. Please try to be considerate to others and include alt text with all of your images. It helps everyone. Indeed, in the "accessibility" setting in Bluesky you can set it to make sure you add alt text, which is a useful thing to do.

i will concede that if you want to influence other people addicted to X, X is worth using. but if you want to influence the actual public, text-based social media is a fool's errand.
One of the biggest mistakes left-of-center pundits and influencers made was decamping to Bluesky. They made themselves irrelevant, shrunk their audiences, and dramatically lessened the positive impact they could have on our public debate at the precise time we needed it most.
