SoftMaker Textmaker is so much like word, I can use it immediately. No learning curve. Looks like Microsoft has one fewer customers.

After crying at Word I moved to TextMaker Free and used the same instructions and it worked immediately and intuitively. All my homies hate the increasingly awful Microsoft Suite.

Writing toolset.
For those curious, I write with IA Writer (the markdown editor, not any sort of AI), Obsidian, Pandoc, Typst, and TextMaker 2024. All on MacOS.
The markdown stuff gives me a toolchain for writing to selfpublishing in multiple formats. Textmaker is for .docx wrangling.

After just a few days using Textmaker, I can pretty firmly say I approve. It's like using Word back before Word became so shitty and hand-holding.

Obsidian for drafting (similar to early Scrivener using plugins); still oscillating between Libre Office or Textmaker for final polish since switching to Linux last year.

TextMaker von SoftMaker ist eine M$-Office-Alternative, die für gute Typografie aber leider kaum geeignet ist, da man keine Medieväl-Ziffern setzen kann. Da ist ja sogar Pages besser. #office

OTOMH Word, TextMaker, Scrivener, LibreOffice & Microsoft's rich text component all create em-dashes automatically.
So, is it just me or does it feel like any writing that uses a few bullet points, a few rhetorical opposites, and a sprinkle of em-dashes is getting dismissed by people on social media as "probably LLM writing"?

OTOMH Word, TextMaker, Scrivener, LibreOffice & Microsoft's rich text component all create em-dashes automatically.
I've had good results with TextMaker (part of the SoftMaker suite). One-time purchase, no subscription, and I've been able to open Word docs with minimal issues. I can also save the files as Word docs to share with others.
