My first Shakespeare play was a #FolgerLibrary edition at Junior High School 104 #Baruch #NYC

#HenryVIII_2025 #TheTempest_2025
I spent some time in the Folger Shakespeare Library’s vault this afternoon. Among the treasures: a first folio, a ring given to the widow of a man lost at sea, and handwritten inventory from the 17th century that documents the earliest known appearance of Shakespeare in North America

#RichardIII_2025 Week 1 starts July 12th-
The English are notorious for getting their theology from Milton & their history from Shakespeare, rather than from more orthodox sources. The endurance of the image of a Richard who is 'determined to prove a villain' is testimony to the power of drama (1/2)

I find The Tempest wiki enlightening, broad, and blessedly devoid of academic blather. No one source inspired Tempest. May be Shakesp's last play. One of the most produced plays. John Gielgud considered greatest Prospero of 20th Century. etc. . . #thetempest_2025 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tem...

wow. so much going on in this ending of Derek Jarman's 1979 Tempest. Singer Elizabeth Welch sings "Stormy Weather" to a cadre of sailor boys while Miranda and Ferdinand gaze on. #thetempest_2025 youtu.be/t8cTeGEGvc0?...

Was I, to take this drunkard for a god,
And worship this dull fool.

Acknowledge mine.

To hear the story of your life, which must
Take the ear strangely.

MIRANDA. O wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world,
That has such people in't.

Act V s1 #TheTempest_2025 Like the Savage in Huxley's #BraveNewWorld , Miranda does not yet know the "civilization" that awaits her. Perhaps she'd stay on the island.

Why we need the structure of comedy: because The Tempest's tempest is but a dream, a spell. A conceit, a longing. In real life a tempest has no happy ending, only a changed one. #thetempest_2025

Hello! #TheTempest_2025 #HenryVI_2025
Option A it is (Richard III, John, Henry VIII).
Also, it makes sense to read King John who stood up to papal tyranny before Henry VIII flexed his muscles.
Reminder: #RichardIII_2025 will begin July 12, 2025!
To be followed by #KingJohn_2025 .
