Tropical shrub
At least my British friends surely know: It is not just a camelia; it is tea.

Camellia japonica ‘Brushfield Yellow‘ / Theaceae

Shrub
Still the camellias are in bloom and they give springtime-scenes an exotic flair.

The most spectacular tree in our native flora is now in flower. Franklinia tree, Franklinia alatamaha (Theaceae), has beautiful white flowers against dark green leaves. Sadly, Franklinia is extinct in the wild, and is today found only in gardens. I will tell the complex story of its loss soon.

"I did send for a Cupp of Tee (a China drink) of which I had never drunk before."
So Samuel Pepys wrote in his diary on September 25, 1660. Have a cuppa & think of Camellia sinensis (tea) for International Tea Day. 📷: Jenn Vargas CCBYNCSA2 #Tea #Teaday #Theaceae
