My colleague Dominic Cavendish took this shot of a rainy night in the West End’s theatreland and I rather love it.

Magic is more than spectacle. It is power. 🪄🐇

Play our first-person tale as Jacob, a fallen illusionist bound by a pact with The Devil and cast into Hell. Master deadly tricks, steal your rivals' powers and try to escape Theatreland.

#Magicians: The Devil's Deal, out in 2027.

Yesterday was #WorldTheatreDay, so here’s a dual aperture Edward VII pillar box on Shaftesbury Avenue in London’s Theatreland. With stamp prices rising (again 😡) it’s the perfect place to post second class mail. 💌🎭

It’s been a difficult few weeks. Seeing my brother and sister-in-law for Breakfast in London’s theatreland made everything easier.

I’ve been pounding the streets of London Theatreland, acting as my daughter’s wingman as she spreads the word and gets her CV / Resume out there. Fascinating seeking out all the stage doors. Day Two this week step count is through the roof! #Costume&Wardrobe #wardrobeassistant #dresser #musicsky

There’s a big treat in store for UK viewers tonight. As part of BBC4’s Ibsen season, they are showing the filmed 1959 play ‘Brand’, which made Patrick McGoohan the toast of theatreland and set him on his way to above-the-title stardom. Tune in tonight at 11:50, or iPlayer.

A week or so ago there were articles knocking about regarding how the extreme-right had tapped up fantasy theatre land to get them onside. Now we see the intent behind the schmoozing. It ain't art.

The message to a complicit theatreland:

You just got Surkoved.
And he also came from theatreland.

Record shopping in London starts for me at Reckless in Soho as I can combine it with family theatreland trips - last night it was Mamma Mia! Reckless always has something good and who knew there were records in an Oxfam basement off Tottenham Court Road?

Situated diagonally opposite the Glasgow Empire, just over the road from the Pavilion, and just a short stroll from the Royal and the Savoy, this was the beating heart of the city's theatreland.

Bollocks. Rich people emerge from West End theatres, trip over the sight of poverty and complain that it’s spoiling Theatreland. Much better to move the poor somewhere they can’t be seen. Apparently homelessness is bad for tourism; doing something about it is someone else’s problem.
