I know we’ve heard writers Clement & La Frenais discuss various ideas for the show’s future. (I love the one where Terry wins a million & Bob’s bankrupt.) But in my head canon, somewhere around 1978, Thelma & Terry realise, with horror, they’re falling in love with each other.

We were watching the 1974 Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads Christmas Special again last night. Of course it remains fab. But it also left me with the strangest feeling that, a few years down the line, Terry & Thelma were going to end up together. And actually be good for one another too. Crikey.

In the first episode Whatever, Bob takes the wedding present he’s bought for Thelma to a strip club; it’s a clock, but it’s Terry who ends up holding the clock when Thelma first sees it. Enough symbolism to keep the art house in business for years

I'm watching the likely lads and Thelma has inadvertently got into bed with Terry, thinking it was Bob. But even in the morning when it was light she didn't notice his hair had changed colour and was three inches shorter. I reckon she fancies Terry, you know.
